The Mermaid

“The Mermaid” by Pauli Olsen can be found in Ansgars Anlæg. “The Mermaid” is made of bronze and granite and is placed high on a platform. The sculpture was unveiled on 20th July 1998.
The motif is taken from one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most well-known fairy tales “”The Little Mermaid””. It is the story of a mermaid’s unrequited love for the earthly prince who is to blame for her choice to replace her fish tail with human legs, just so she can meet him. The sculpture was donated by Fehr and Co’s Grant.
The tale of “”The Little Mermaid”” was published in 1837
