H. C. Andersen visited Næstved in 1836 on one of his summer travels. He stayed with Colonel Høegh-Guldberg and spent much of the time on hiking to Herlufsholm along a creek and in the sorrounding woods. H. C. Andersen also visited Holmegaard glass foundry in 1842.
