The Flying Trunk

“The Flying Trunk” was unveiled in 1991 and is located next to jernbanegade on Gråbrødretorv in Odense. The sculpture was created by sculptor Jens Flemming Sørensen. “The Flying Trunk” is made of granite and bronze and has a fountain, it depicts a suitcase going for the sky, lightly resting on three pyramid-like towers.
The sculpture is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of the Flying Trunk (1839) and the pyramid-like towers symbolize mosques in ‘ Turk land ‘ as HC Andersen describes the adventure.
